In Milan this month (CiaoMilano): Find your way around Milan in English. Great exhibitions, concerts, flower shows, et al. Many museum exhibits offer "children's tours" for which you need to reserve in advance.

For the more design-oriented, there's are often great exhibitions going on at the Triennale as well as installations at Hangar Biccoca and the Fondazione Prada.

Tutti matti per Colorno: August 30, 31 and September 1st in Colorno. Circus and street theater festival, activities for children and adults.

Cariparma Running Saturday 6 for children 6 - 12 years old and Sunday 7 for the 5, 10, half-marathon, and 30k. Register with CUS (click on the link).

Palio di Parma: medieval festival taking place on September 14-15. The clou is the donkey race at 5 pm on September 15!

Coccinella Day Insects and art at Grazzano Visconti on September 21 and 22. Promoted at IKEA so get there early if you're interested!

Let it snow:
Schia is Parma's nice little ski resort. Schia ski school can be found on facebook.
Hiking: Liberi Spazi, Macigno Vivo and Club Alpino Italiano.

On February 10, Schia will be the finish line of the annual husky race across the Appenins.
Check weather and road conditions before driving up the mountain! Winter tires or snow chains are required.

ParmaDanza

After a much regretted absence in 2012, ParmaDanza is back in May at the Teatro Regio.

The programme is well balanced between ballet (Svetlana Zakhkarova, Ballet Nice Méditerranée) and contemporary dance (Ballet Preljocaj, Fondazione Nazionale della Danza).
 
Subscriptions will be on sale on 5th February (renewals) and 15 Feb. (new subscriptions), tickets on 19th Feb.

Happy birthday, Mr Verdi!

2013 will see the celebration of the bicentenary of the birth of Giuseppe Verdi, Italy's most famous composer.
Three operas will be staged at the Teatro Regio: Un Ballo in Maschera (January) and Nabucco  (March).
It's also the bicentenary of Richard Wagner's birth: Parsifal will be staged in March.
 
Subscriptions for the three shows will be on sale on 15th December (renewals) or 29th December (new subscriptions). Tickets for a single show will be on sale on 3rd January.
 
It's highly advised to buy subscriptions or tickets as soon as available.
 
The Scala in Milan is also celebrating Verdi with seven operas from Falstaff in January to Aida in November.
 
Did you know that it's possible to do a (very interesting) guided tour of the Teatro Regio?  Tuesday-Saturday, 10 am-1 pm and 3 pm-6 pm.
